First days in Caylus, France.
It’s been a week since I arrived to this beautiful medieval town nestled amongst rolling hills and valleys in the heart of a rich cultural and historical heritage. By the second day I was settled and working in what will be my studio for the next month. I have arrived with some ideas of what I want to develop but I am also more than ready to give way to new forms and approaches and look forward to conversations about drawing and art with John and Grete McNorton, directors of Drawing International as well as with the two other artists from England and Chile, Grace Crabtree and Francisca Yañez.
The theme of Exile, Migration and Foriegnness is what attracted me to the Residency initially since my work has dealt with these headings in different forms and of course that it was a drawing center. I brought with me some reading material to accompany the new process but delighted to discover new reading. My new friend and fellow artist just out of an English art school, Grace, introduced me to the Korean philosopher Byung Han who touches a special cord with his reference to the vita contemplativa in response to the accelerated and self defeating time we live in.

Primeros días en Caylus, Francia.
Ha pasado una semana desde que llegué a esta hermosa ciudad medieval enclavada entre colinas y valles en el corazón de un rico patrimonio cultural e histórico de Francia. Para el segundo día ya me encontraba instalada y trabajando en lo que será mi estudio para el próximo mes. Llegué con algunas ideas de lo que quiero desarrollar, pero también estoy más que lista para dar paso a nuevas formas y enfoques anticipando ricas conversaciones sobre dibujo y arte con John y Grete McNorton, directores de Drawing International, así como con los otros dos artistas de Inglaterra y Chile, Grace Crabtree y Francisca Yañez.
El tema de Exilio, Migración y Extranjero es lo que me atrajo a la Residencia inicialmente ya que mi trabajo ha tratado estos títulos en diferentes formas y, por supuesto, por ser un centro de dibujo. Traje conmigo material de lectura para acompañar el nuevo proceso, pero me encantó descubrir nuevas lecturas. Mi nuevo amiga y colega artista recién egresada de la prestigiosa Oxford University,, Grace Crabtree, me introdujo al filósofo coreano Byung Han , cuyo enfoque toca un cordón especial con su referencia a la vita contemplativa en respuesta al tiempo acelerado y autodestructivo en el que vivimos.
